The main purpose of We Hive is to build a safe and secure environment where everyone whether it is an au pair or a family will feel safe to share, discuss and find each other to create the perfect match.
It is important to fully grasp and carefully consider the following safety information and if in doubt never hesitate to contact us to discuss your concern. Remember that We Hive founder has been both an au Pair and a host family so please take our advice to keep safe and this is one of the main reasons that you should choose us as part of your au pairing journey.
Please note that at We Hive do not tolerate any form or shape of discrimination so let’s make We Hive a place of exchange that will make this world a better place!
Safety Standard
- SSL encryption: We Hive website operates with SSL encryption. This guarantees the privacy of communication between your browser and our web servers, preventing unauthorized access by third parties.
- HTTPS: Hypertext transfer protocol secure is the secure version of HTTP used by We Hive, which is the primary protocol used to send data between a web browser and a website. HTTPS is encrypted in order to increase security of data transfer. Always be safe and check that you are in a “HTTPS” only website.
Profile checks
- Profiles are check upon registration by the We Hive Team. Identification may be asked if in doubt
- Family and Au Pair need to be registered to see each other profiles
- Only Family with our basic or premium membership options can have access to au pair contact details
- Uncomplete profiles cannot have access to We Hive member details
- Inactive profiles will be deleted after a few months
First exchange between family and Au Pair
- Think carefully on your selection criteria to select the best possible match
- Prepare a list of questions that you can ask to potential candidates
- Make sure that you understand all visa regulations if applicable as well as timing
- Check driving license if required
- Have a look at the EU au pair contract as a basis of your discussion
- Use Video calls
- Ask for proof of identity
- Have a background check done to reassure each other
- Prepare your references (childcare, character or family reference) to share with each other
- Never give your personal address in advance
- Never send any money in advance
- Meet, meet more than once to make sure that you selected the right match
Check List for Au Pairs
- Have an open return ticket if you are travelling far away from home (may be required by visa regulation anyway)
- Make a copy of your passport
- Review the au pair contract and sign a copy
- Make sure you cover yourself by a proper health insurance while abroad
- Have money to cover yourself for the first few weeks of your stay
- Register with your home consulate upon arrival
- Keep in touch with your family and friends while abroad and give them your new contact details
- Talk straight away to We hive if you feel unsafe!
Welcoming the Au Pair into her new home
- Be prepared to stay with the au pair for the first week of arrival (perhaps using homeworking)
- Enjoy each other as a new family and prepare some outings with the children to fully integrate the au pair
- Give the au pair a list of emergency contact and numbers
- Take the au pair personal emergency contact details (parents, friends)
- Discuss with the au pair any vital information regarding your children (allergies, illness, schooling ect.)
- Show the au pair the first aid supplies
- Show the au pair around your home and how things works
- If driving, accompany the au pair in the area for her first drives
- Keep having regular meetings to chat on family integration
When things don’t go according to plan
- Discuss with each other to see if relationship can be fixed
- Be aware of the au pair regulations as two week’s notice is generally given if things do not go according to plan
- Contact the local police if case of a real emergency
- Contact We Hive emergency number
- It may be possible for the au pair to find another family while still in the country, contact We Hive
- Report any abusing profile to We Hive
